Goals are brilliant!  Can be hugely motivating and give a kick of dopamine when achieved.  They can help us improve with enthusiasm, enjoyment and at a faster speed.  But which ones are right for the student?

Goals do not have to be exams.

When a pro is playing the piano, it looks so easy but it's a co-ordination, brain bamboozling feat that takes years and years to master and hours and hours sitting at the piano trying things out, playing around with ideas and repeating exercises.  Don't let that put you off!  It's rewarding because it's hard.  If the effort is put in, the reward buzzers in your brain are well and truly pressed!

Goals can be:

  • Exams
  • Peformance opportunties
  • Method book goals
  • Mini goals within one of the 7 musicianship areas that will then build towards a bigger goal
  • Practice mini goals
  • Individually chosen pieces that a student really really wants to play

Please see the drop down menu for more information on each of these goals.
